Using 5G and tech innovation to create amazing experiences

During Bristol Harbour Festival, in mid-July 2019, Mativision, Zeetta Networks, Smart Internet Lab, and the other partners of the extension of the 5G Smart Tourism project, headed by West of England Combined Authority and funded by Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), offered a unique immersive experience:

 

Multiple 360° views from the different performance stages across Bristol were delivered LIVE to people accessing a 5G network with their own smartphones, tablets or the VR headsets provided in Millennium Square by Mativision!

Mativision used their totally upgraded workflow, including multiple brand-new, state-of-the-art UHD 360-degree cameras to live stream from three different locations in the city. The users could select among any of the streamed locations in real time, thanks to a streaming server installed in the Smart Internet Lab and a custom developed Mativision immersive content Player. The live interactive streaming lasted for the full two-days’ duration of the Harbour Festival and was the first time worldwide that a 5G network was used to deliver such an immersive experience from multiple locations during a real event.
